Since the 1964 U.S. Open, Congressional's Blue Course epitomized classic American parkland golf. Initially crafted by Robert Trent Jones, it underwent various transformations by son Rees Jones for subsequent Opens. Over time, surrounding trees flourished, casting shadowy wood corridors. In 2020, faced with drainage issues and declining conditions, the membership sought a major overhaul. Architect Andrew Green led the transformation, envisioning a design akin to Emmet's original concept. Dense forests were cleared, replaced by expansive fairways weaving through fescue-filled meadows, adorned with formidable bunkers and distinctive greens. The remodel, featuring a new drop-shot par-3 10th hole, earned the course accolades, including our 2021 Best Transformation award and a notable climb in the 100 Greatest ranking.
