Course Details
Set at the base of Cheyenne Mountain, the East Course at The Broadmoor Golf Club offers a classic mountain golf experience, complete with famously deceptive green contours that often trick the eye—putts that appear uphill may actually break downhill. What many players don’t realize is that the layout is a blend of design eras: the opening six holes and the finishing three were crafted by Donald Ross, while the middle stretch—from holes seven through fifteen—was designed by Robert Trent Jones three decades later. A road crossing subtly separates the original Ross holes from the later Jones additions. The course has a rich championship pedigree, serving as the site of Jack Nicklaus’ first U.S. Amateur victory in 1959 and Annika Sorenstam’s breakthrough U.S. Women’s Open win in 1995. More recently, it hosted the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open, won by So Yeon Ryu, and the 2018 U.S. Senior Open, where David Toms captured his first major on the senior circuit.
