Course Details

Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Arnold Palmer’s home course for more than 45 years, is a distinctive Florida layout known for its rolling terrain—a rarity in the state, though less so in the Orlando area—and dramatic use of sinkhole ponds throughout the design. While Tiger Woods has made the course his own in competition with eight victories, the architecture itself offers plenty to admire. The par-5 sixth hole, which wraps around a lake, feels reminiscent of Robert Trent Jones’s 13th at The Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach, a comparison made more interesting by the rivalry between Jones and Bay Hill’s architect, Dick Wilson—each often accused the other of borrowing ideas. Among the most compelling holes is the par-4 eighth, a dogleg right with a diagonal green set above a small circular pond. Though it bears similarities to the sixth at Hazeltine National, another Trent Jones creation, the timing of their construction in the early 1960s suggests the resemblance may be coincidental rather than inspired.
