Course Details

In September 1897, affluent businessmen, mainly AC Hotel owners, convened at the Brighton Hotel to strategize guest entertainment at the resort. They unanimously selected golf as the prime attraction, birthing the Country Club of Atlantic City. Situated in Northfield for easy access via a trolley line from Atlantic City to Somers Point and Ocean City, the location was ideal. Land purchase was funded through certificate issuances, one still held by the club. Professional golfer John Reid, surveying the site, prioritized bayside property for the first nine holes. By June 18, 1898, the course and clubhouse were operational, witnessing notable events like Abner Smith's historic "birdie" shot on the 12th Hole in December 1903. Golf at one of the oldest golf courses, called “The Birthplace of the Birdie”!
