Located just north of Philadelphia, Whitemarsh Valley Country Club marked the debut of George C. Thomas as a golf course designer with its 18-hole layout. Originally named Mount Airy Country Club and situated on Thomas's family estate, this course stands out as one of his early creations before he ventured to California. There, he left his mark on prestigious courses like Los Angeles Country Club, Riviera, and Bel-Air Country Club. At Whitemarsh, Thomas employed sprawling bunkers with distinctive edges to define numerous holes, a design technique he would later refine in his renowned projects.
