Course Details

For two decades, Prairie Dunes held the distinction of being America's premier nine-hole course. When funds became available to expand it to 18 holes, original architect Perry Maxwell had already passed away. However, his son Press skillfully integrated nine additional holes in the 1950s, with three on the front nine and six on the back, seamlessly maintaining the design continuity. Press also faithfully recreated his father's renowned greens, renowned for their intricate breaks. Reflecting the essence of rural Kansas, Prairie Dunes harmonizes sand dunes, prairie grasses, yucca plants, cottonwoods, and constant winds. These features capture the quintessential charm of the heartland landscape that hosted numerous prestigious tournaments including the 2002 US Women's Open, 2006 US Senior Open, and 14 Big 12 Men's Golf Championships, one of which was won by PGA Tour player, Ludvig Aberg.
