Course Details

Plans for a third golf course in Southampton first surfaced in 1921, with Seth Raynor’s name tied to the project from the beginning. By the time construction began in 1925, Raynor had become one of the most in-demand architects in the country. Although his original blueprints are missing, a detailed 1927 rendering by Wallace H. Halsey—based on Raynor’s design—was discovered years later in the club’s attic and now hangs in the clubhouse. Using historic aerial photos dating back to 1938, the club developed and adopted its first Master Plan in 2004. The restoration focused on removing excess soil, rebuilding Raynor-style bunkers, and shaping mounds from the excavated earth. Greens were expanded and squared off in keeping with Raynor’s style, and new irrigation systems were installed. The project was completed in late 2010. Southampton Golf Club will mark its centennial in 2025.
