Course Details

During the 1985 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Fox Chapel, won by Michiko Hattori, critiques arose regarding the Seth Raynor design's diminished allure. Circular greens, neglected bunkers, and modern changes disappointed. The conversion of the 17th hole’s front green to fairway, once a Biarritz design, was particularly concerning. In the early 1990s, architect Brian Silva embarked on restoring Raynor’s original vision. He meticulously reinstated green dimensions, including the Biarritz, and revived authentic bunkers, such as the iconic necklace encircling the 11th (“Short”) green. Another restoration in 2020 reconstructed 97 new bunkers to match the original 1923 course, restoring Fox Chapel Golf Club to its premier status in Pittsburgh and nationally.
