The River Course at Kiawah Island Club, built five years before Cassique, offers a striking setting along the Kiawah River. The course opens with six holes winding through forest and beside lagoons. Holes seven to nine elevate the experience, with two circling Bass Pond and the ninth hugging the marshland along the river. The back nine mirrors this layout, starting again in wooded terrain before transitioning into a coastal landscape marked by live oaks and broad sandy stretches. The final two holes run beside the tidal wetlands, providing a fitting finish. While the course doesn't break new ground architecturally, it showcases familiar elements from Tom Fazio's previous designs—essentially a curated collection of his most recognized work.
