Course Details
Similar to No. 33 Pikewood National, Pete Dye Golf Club stands as one of the 100 Greatest courses, situated atop a mining deposit in West Virginia. However, in this instance, it's established upon an active coal mine. Initially named Coal Ridge, remnants of its industrial heritage are scattered throughout the course, evident in the strip-mine wall adjacent to the par-5 eighth hole, the distinctive black cinder bunkers on the par-4 sixth, and the presence of an abandoned coal train tracing the perimeter of the dogleg on the 10th. Notably, there's even a coal mine shaft that golfers traverse to access the seventh tee. The construction process was prolonged, resulting in an evolution of Dye's design style; early holes reflect the railroad-tie motif reminiscent of Oak Tree National, while later holes showcase the characteristic echo-chamber bunkering akin to Whistling Straits.
