Course Details

Essex County Club, located in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, was established in 1889. Donald Ross served as the club's professional from 1909 to 1913, making minor tweaks during those years, and returned in 1917 to complete a significant renovation. The course features several memorable holes, including the par-3 11th, where the green resembles the deck of a sinking ship, and the par-4 18th, which winds around small hills in an "S" shape. The club also claims that its third green, designed in 1893 and kept by Ross in his redesign, is the oldest green in continuous use in America.

First Tee - Virginia Blue Ridge was founded in 2015 and officially received its national chapter license April 28, 2016. The chapter serves the city of Charlottesville as well as Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, Culpeper and Orange counties. Since their inception in 2016, they have launched programs across Albemarle and Greene counties and at Birdwood Golf Course, Meadowcreek Golf Course, and The Highlands Golf Park, teaching the Nine Core Values and Nine Healthy Habits to over 9,193 area youth.
