Course Details
The Stanford Course, a par-70 routing fashioned by George C. Thomas and Billy Bell Jr. in the early 1930s, is home to Stanford’s top-ranked men’s and women’s golf programs. Several notable players—from Tiger Woods, Tom Watson and Michelle Wie to Mickey Wright and Lawson Little—honed their games over this expansive track, which earned a place on America's 100 Greatest list in the 1970s. Grand oaks frame many fairways and raised tee boxes offer sweeping mountain vistas, with the 18th tee providing a distant view of San Francisco. The course presents strong variety—holes run in multiple directions and alternate between wide-open drives and tighter, more demanding tee shots—and, while largely pleasant to walk with few homes encroaching on the property, the changes in elevation and the spacing between certain holes can make the walk fairly strenuous.
