The story of South Fork Country Club begins in 1921, when the original nine-hole Amagansett Golf Club was built. Like many clubs of its era, it struggled during the Great Depression and ultimately closed, with World War II sealing its fate as the land and clubhouse were abandoned. In the 1950s, local farmer Whitey Tiska—who would later become a club member—purchased the property, returning it to agricultural use and planting potatoes across the former fairways. The site found new life in 1959 when it was reborn as South Fork Country Club. Decades later, in 1994, the club’s board sought to expand the layout to a full 18 holes, entrusting acclaimed architect Gil Hanse with the design and construction of the new nine, blending history and modern craftsmanship into one cohesive course.
