Originally laid out by Donald Ross in 1923, River Oaks Country Club—just outside Houston—was later updated by Rees Jones in 1990 and the Fazio design team in 2015. The course’s wide fairways run alongside the muddy banks of Buffalo Bayou, with routing that moves across varied elevations to create a distinctive set of rolling, riverside approach shots. After Hurricane Harvey stripped away large stands of trees in 2017, the club took the opportunity to reroute several holes to engage more directly with the bayou and lowlands, adding new layouts. The most striking changes include a par‑3 third that plays to a peninsula green and the transformation of the former par‑4 17th into a par‑3 played over a formidable water hazard.
