Few links are blessed with a more dramatic location, stretching along the north shore and sandy beach of the Dornoch Firth. This vast amphitheatre of natural, tiered linksland is framed by shimmering waters and gorse-clad hillside, gloriously golden in the spring. The earliest surviving written evidence of golf being played on the links at Dornoch dates to 1616 when Sir Robert Gordon claimed expenses of £10 and £12 for the purchase of golf clubs and balls in his role as tutor to his young nephew, the 13th Earl of Sutherland.
