In October 1988, 46 golf enthusiasts from Howard County came together to create what would become Cattail Creek Country Club, Inc. They enlisted veteran architect Willard Byrd of Atlanta—designer of more than 100 courses—to help select the site and shape both the layout and overall facility. After a careful search, the group acquired a 168-acre property in 1990, drawn to its rolling countryside and abundant water features. With the backing of 130 founding members, construction began in September 1991, led by contractors from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Less than two years later, in the first week of July 1993, the course officially opened for play.
