Course Details

Opened in 1916 as a simple seaside escape for a group of Norfolk businessmen, the Princess Anne has evolved from its humble beginnings in a quiet coastal outpost into one of Virginia’s premier private retreats. The club’s original golf course, unveiled in 1921, carries the imprint of Willie Park Jr.—two-time Open Champion and influential course architect—whose thoughtfully placed tees, greens, and bunkers gave the layout its enduring strategic character. While founding president Clarence Amos Neff helped guide the initial routing and vision, it was Park’s hand that turned the property into a classic design. Decades of refinement culminated in a comprehensive renovation by Tim Liddy in 2007, preserving the course’s heritage while sharpening its challenge. Today, the par-70 layout is celebrated not only for its beauty and test of skill, but also for earning a spot among Golf Magazine’s Top 25 Short Courses in the World in 2020.
