Course Details
Designed by Donald Ross and opened in 1912, the original 18-hole course remained in use until 1968, when commercial growth around Elmsford and construction of Interstate 287 prompted the club’s relocation to its current Greenwich site, where Robert Trent Jones created a new layout. Fairview’s two nines contrast sharply: the shorter front nine demands avoidance of water hazards—five of the first seven holes bring water into play—while the longer back nine rewards length and precision. The second is a picturesque, wooded par five with two bunkers guarding the left side of the fairway above a steep drop; a large pond dominates the final 100 yards and leaves only a narrow right-side approach, with an elevated green that tumbles toward water on the left, so most players won’t attempt to reach in two. The short par-five fifth features a split fairway, the left side bordered by a substantial pond that funnels approaches into a relatively tight right-side landing area. Fairview also hosted two major MGA events—the 1930 Met Open and the 1959 Met Amateur—where John Inglis’s caddies carried for the champions.
