Though Lookaway Golf Club is a modern addition to Pennsylvania’s golf landscape, its setting is steeped in remarkable history. The land traces back to 1713, when William Penn granted it to Thomas Watson of Yorkshire, marking Deed No. 1 in Buckingham Township. At the heart of the property stands a stone farmhouse built around 1752—believed to be the oldest structure currently serving as a clubhouse in the United States. Over nearly two centuries, the estate evolved from a homestead to a schoolhouse before becoming an active dairy farm. In 1923, Theodore W. Sterling purchased the property—then known as Paxon Farm—and renamed it “Lookaway,” gaining local renown for his bottled milk featuring an interlaced “TWS” emblem. When a group of partners acquired the land in 1997 to establish Lookaway Golf Club, they honored Sterling’s legacy by adopting the same emblem as the club’s logo. Since its first rounds were played in 1999, the intertwined initials have continued to represent the tradition of quality and community that has defined the site for more than three centuries.
