Course Details

Charles Alison, the globetrotting mind behind Davenport Country Club, began alongside Harry S. Colt around 1908 and formalized their partnership after World War I, shaping courses across the U.K. and Europe. In the 1920s he managed the team’s North American work, then spent the 1930s designing extensively in Japan before adding projects in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Davenport, opened in 1924, stands among his best American efforts—alongside Milwaukee Country Club (No. 97 on America’s 100 Greatest), Kirtland near Cleveland, and Burning Tree outside Washington, D.C. Set on rumpled terrain near the Mississippi River, its holes weave around streams and showcase Alison’s signature broad, open-faced bunkers. Ron Forse and Jim Nagle have guided updates that honor those original design elements.
