In 1910, a cadre of local residents set out to create a more progressive private club—a welcoming retreat with first-rate golf—and by April their new venture counted 70 charter members. Edgewood Valley’s centerpiece is its acclaimed 18-hole parkland course, crafted by William H. Diddel in 1925. Thoughtful updates over the years have preserved Diddel’s character while aligning the layout with modern play and turf standards. Rolling natural terrain, tree-lined corridors, assertive bunkering, and quick, true greens make the 6,850 yards play longer than the card suggests—proved at the 2006 Illinois State Amateur, when only one player finished under par.
