Set on 104 acres just off Hollywood, Wilshire is a private, old-school layout split by Beverly Boulevard and stitched together by a barranca that influences roughly half the holes. Norman Macbeth’s 1919 design once hosted four Los Angeles Opens (1928–44), and while it stretches only about 6,500 yards, its lively green contours and sharp-edged, deep bunkers keep it firmly in the “serious test” category. In 2008, Kyle Phillips refreshed the bunkering and the barranca with a look evocative of the 1920s, later returning to refine that work and carry out a broader, tee-to-green update. The finisher is a standout: a classic 18th playing to a green tucked in the elbow of the ravine beneath the clubhouse veranda.
